Gyeongsangnam-do seeks cooperation with Australia on sustainable technologies

Gyeongsangnam-do Governor Park Wan-soo represented Economy Deputy Governor Kim Byeong-gyu on a 5-night, 7-day trip to Australia and New Zealand. The tour promoted hydrogen industry partnership and eco-friendly agriculture between Gyeongsangnam-do and foreign/local governments. This trip included visits to significant hydrogen firms, business roundtable discussions, and relevant Australian leaders. This visit could help both regions promote hydrogen technology and eco-friendly farming.

Bumhan Fuel Cell, Kohaigen, Technopark authorities, and smart farm experts from Gyeongsangnam-do participated in a hydrogen production and use business roundtable during the visit. The discussions intended to boost hydrogen industry development and technological capacity. Progress was discussed, generating insights for future collaboration.

Bumhan Fuel Cell, a hydrogen defense leader, developed the world’s longest submarine fuel cell and commercialized in 2018. In 2021, the company became a hydrogen-specialist.

Energy corporations formed Kohaigen to build commercial car hydrogen filling stations. The nation’s first self-charging large-capacity hydrogen filling station in Changwon’s Seongju-dong uses items from local hydrogen enterprises to localize fundamental technologies.

Mark Furner, Queensland’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, met on the 16th morning. Cooperative eco-friendly agriculture, particularly smart farms, was discussed. Deputy Governor Kim Byeong-kyu noted Gyeongsangnam-do’s affinity with Queensland and Korea’s longstanding relationship with Australia. Collaboration in maritime sector growth, investor consultations, and seminars was discussed. The delegation also visited the University of Queensland, where Professor Jaehoon Jeong and university officials discussed the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) project for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and the latest hydrogen-linked advanced air mobility (AAM) technology. Hydrogen, eco-friendly agriculture, and technology could benefit from this visit. Australia’s hydrogen production and Gyeongsangnam-do’s manufacturing base lay the groundwork for cooperation. This alliance could advance hydrogen technology and sustainable farming by combining each region’s assets.


Port of Tarragona to serve as administrative center of Green Hydrogen Valley of Catalonia

As it is thought to be a “basic and strategic” structure for the introduction of hydrogen in this area, the port of Tarragona will serve as the administrative center of the Green Hydrogen Valley of Catalonia.

The headquarters will be situated in the province of Tarragona, where the largest chemical industrial complex in southern Europe is situated, on the first level of the administrative building of the port.

It has been made clear by the Generalitat of Catalonia’s Department of Justice that the office will support any project on Catalan soil and will not only cover Tarragona but the entire autonomous community.

With the backing and assistance of the Hydrogen Valley, the necessity of decarbonizing the Tarragona petrochemical complex has also been brought to light, with the goal set for the year 2050.


ARENA welcomes Hydrogen Headstart initiative funding

The Hydrogen Headstart initiative in Australia has received new money, which was announced in the 2023–24 Federal Budget, which has been welcomed by ARENA.

The largest green hydrogen projects to be built in Australia will be supported by the $2 billion Hydrogen Headstart initiative, according to the Australian government.

Through competitive production contracts, funding will offer revenue support for investments in renewable hydrogen generation. The commercial difference between the cost of producing hydrogen from renewable sources and its present market price will be filled with funding.


Australia’s largest truck exhibition starts with electric and hydrogen launches

Even though Hannover, Germany’s larger truck exhibition, which is the largest in Australia, has a pure electric focus, at least some truck firms were hoping to seriously advance their zero emission objectives on the first day of the Brisbane event on Thursday.

The major biannual exhibition for the regional transportation industry, which employs about 500,000 people, featured roughly 14 different electric and hydrogen truck manufacturers showcasing their products on the expansive show floor.

There were a number of new releases, some at the large end of the market and some at the lower end that concentrates on last mile deliveries, and several were launching electric and hydrogen options for the first time.
