Thyssengas and Stadtnetze Münster are collaboratively orchestrating the expansion of their hydrogen pipeline networks.

This partnership, underpinned by a recently signed letter of intent, sets the stage for a hydrogen supply ecosystem in the Münster region, offering a promising outlook for industries, heat planning, and investment security.

The strategic agreement between Münster’s city networks and Thyssengas is poised to seamlessly connect the long-distance gas pipeline to the regional distribution network. This alignment is a critical step in establishing a comprehensive hydrogen supply network. It caters not only to industrial and medium-sized enterprises but also bolsters municipal heat planning, fortifying the foundation for a hydrogen-based energy landscape.

Thyssengas’s ambitious Coesfeld-Münster line project is the cornerstone of hydrogen supply for the Münsterland and Westphalia region. Contingent upon the outcomes of the national hydrogen core network evaluation, a line extending to Hamm is projected to be operational by 2029. Along the route from Coesfeld to Hamm, a seamless integration between Thyssengas and Münster’s city grid is envisioned. This intricate network will tap into the “GET H2” cluster and the planned north-south corridor connecting Wilhelmshaven and Cologne. Early interactions with local industrial players in Münster reveal strong enthusiasm for this vision.

The “Münster-Hamm” cluster emerges as a beacon of high hydrogen demand. This cluster encompasses areas between Münster, Gütersloh, Warstein, and Dortmund. Within this nexus reside energy- and emission-intensive industries committed to a hydrogen-infused energy transition. These clusters serve as nuclei, triggering the evolution of an integrated hydrogen infrastructure. The Thyssengas H2 strategy advances its mission to deliver a greener energy future.
