An agreement in principle has been concluded between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co (ADNOC) and the plant engineering division of thyssenkrupp Uhde.

The agreement calls for the establishment of a sizable ammonia cracking plant as a cooperative initiative. After travel, this can separate the hydrogen from the ammonia. Initially left open when an investment decision was anticipated.

Due to its importance in the energy transition, hydrogen is in great demand. It can be bonded in ammonia for simpler transportation. Ammonia can be transported and cracked at its destination into hydrogen and nitrogen. According to CEO Martina Merz, thyssenkrupp and ADNOC are moving forward with large-scale ammonia cracking.

According to Uhde CEO Cord Landsmann, “Clean ammonia is the greatest way to carry hydrogen by ship, and together with Adnoc we will offer the last piece of the jigsaw for global green hydrogen trade on a massive scale.” He had previously stated in an interview with Reuters that his company wanted to spur growth, particularly with environmentally friendly items like ammonia plants.
