Topsoe has been contracted to assist with a Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) study of a new low-carbon ammonia plant in Louisiana. The contract was signed with CF Industries.

The project is being evaluated in partnership with Mitsui & Co., Ltd., a top global ammonia marketer. If the project proceeds, it will generate low-carbon ammonia, a crucial element in the decarbonisation of energy sources.

Ammonia, potentially as low-carbon ammonia or an e-fuel, is anticipated to impact the global journey towards net zero substantively. Its transport can utilize existing infrastructure, and it possesses numerous end uses, including as a fuel or hydrogen carrier, and a tool for decarbonizing industrial processes like steel and cement production.

According to Henrik Rasmussen, Managing Director, The Americas at Topsoe, low-carbon ammonia is seen as a key to unlocking a net zero future. He stated Topsoe’s technology provides a cost-effective path to producing low carbon ammonia while facilitating carbon capture at an industrially proven scale. He added that Topsoe and CF have a history of collaboration extending over many decades which they are proud to continue with this project.
