In the Chinese capital Beijing, Toyota has began building a fuel cell research and development facility for commercial vehicles. The R&D center will eventually house fuel cell manufacturing and testing facilities as well.

About 8 billion yen (53.7 million euros) will be invested in the 110,000 square meter facility by Toyota’s two Chinese fuel cell joint ventures for commercial vehicles, United Fuel Cell System R&D (FCRD), of which Toyota owns 65% of the shares, and Toyota Sinohytec Fuel Cell, of which Toyota owns 50%.

The Beijing Economic Technological Development Area witnessed the laying of the cornerstone for the new factory. Dates for the center’s completion and commissioning have not been provided by Toyota China.
