Chemical Triangle area in Bavaria adds hydrogen project

The “Chemical Triangle” area in southeastern Bavaria will be the focus of future research on the climate-neutral transition of the entire German chemical industry. The focus will be on using hydrogen as an energy source and as a feedstock for key basic chemicals. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funds the “H2 Living Laboratory of the Union Project Burghausen” with about 39 million euros. Industry partners will provide an additional 12 million euros.

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) will assume the scientific leadership of the alliance. Working to make sustainable hydrogen-based chemistry possible, TUM’s research activities focus on a holistic approach. While the studies identify location-specific potentials and required infrastructure measures, the research concept itself revolves around a modular container format for the device, which would allow for multiple routes. different processes. Goals include producing “green” methanol from renewable electricity and converting waste into valuable chemicals using a plasma-driven Waste-to-X method.

Ballard achieves150-million-kilometer PEM milestone

Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells from Ballard Power Systems have propelled Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles, or FCEVs, in commercial Heavy and Medium-Duty Motive Vehicles for a whopping 150 million kilometers, a record in the industry.

This is roughly equivalent to circling the Earth over 3,700 times. To reach this milestone, Ballard fuel cells powered over 3,800 buses and trucks, providing zero-emission mobility solutions in approximately 15 countries around the world.


OAPEC shows blue hydrogen vision at UN session in Geneva

From March 23-24, the General Secretariat of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) participated in the tenth session of the UN Gas Experts Group at UN headquarters in Geneva. Representatives of the member states of the European Economic Commission and representatives of the European Commission participated in the meeting.

The International Gas Union, Hydrogen Foundation in Europe, International Gas Center in Geneva, World Health Organization, and international oil companies, experts, and academics also participated.

The General Secretariat’s gas industry expert Eng Wael Hamid Abdel Moti presented a paper in the hydrogen session titled “Prospects for Blue Hydrogen and Blue Ammonia in the Arab Region” with representatives of the Hydrogen Council, the UN, and the European Hydrogen Organization.

OAPEC representative explained that Arab countries invest heavily in hydrogen to meet expected future demand in major markets like Europe and Asia and to open a window for internal demand in sectors like industry and transport.
