Klean Industries and Nikola to convert truck fleets to Nikola Tre FCEVs

With Nikola Corporation, a top designer and producer of heavy-duty commercial battery-electric vehicles (BEV), hydrogen fuel cell electric cars (FCEV), and energy supply and infrastructure solutions, Klean Industries has signed an agreement under the HYLA brand.

With the help of Klean’s partners, feedstock suppliers, the company want to promote the use of Nikola Class 8 zero-emission vehicles while also building infrastructure for green hydrogen supply and dispensing in the US and Canada. Nikola will assess potential offtake prospects from green hydrogen projects being constructed in the Pacific Northwest and Canada by Klean and its partners that use hydroelectric, wind, and solar power. The firms will collaborate to convert the truck fleet of Klean’s logistics partners to Nikola Class 8 zero-emission vehicles using Klean’s green hydrogen.

Klean and Nikola both see a big chance to work together on initiatives where Klean and its partners run recycling, resource recovery, and waste to energy facilities. This partnership is beneficial because both sides recognise the importance of zero-emission logistics in providing comprehensive supply chain solutions that support the growth of the hydrogen economy’s low carbon footprint and zero waste to landfills. This partnership also shows how committed Klean, their logistic partners, and Nikola are to assisting in the decarbonization of the transportation industry, as hydrogen is a key component in the provision of a solution for the worldwide path to a zero-emission future in transportation.

Plug achieves record Q1 2023 PEM electrolyzer stack production

In the first quarter of 2023, Plug Power produced 122MW of Plug’s 1MW electrolyzer stack platform, a record for the business and the PEM electrolyzer market.

Moreover, Plug sent nearly 1,000 custom stacks totaling 5.7MW and ranging in power from a few hundred watts to 150 kW. With plans to further expand output in Q3 2023, Plug is on schedule to build up its 2.5GW gigafactory near Rochester, New York, to 100MW per month in mid-Q2 2023.

The ecosystem of Plug’s green hydrogen depends on electrolyzers. With the use of electrolysis, Plug’s PEM stacks can separate water into green hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity. Plug provides a quick-turnaround containerized electrolyzer system that enables decarbonization in a variety of applications, including those in difficult to regulate sectors.

CaetanoBus to provide hydrogen buses in France

In 2023, CaetanoBus, a business from the world of Salvador Caetano, “turned the turbo on.”

a contract for the delivery of 60 cars, valued at about 40 million euros, was signed with the German operator Deutsche Bahn. To this, it added 10 buses in a previously established contract with the Spanish company EMT Madrid, and is now supplying up to 60 vehicles in France.

In recent years, the French hydrogen bus business has grown significantly and is now one of the most significant in Europe.

WV hydrogen hub clean ammonia factory gets NatGas from CNX

With the announcement by Adams Fork Energy, Haldor Topsoe, and CNX Resources Corp. of a plan to construct a “multi-billion-dollar” clean ammonia manufacturing facility in southern West Virginia, the ARCH2 (Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub) project, the West Virginia-led initiative to attract government funding for one of 6–10 regional hydrogen hubs, took a giant step forward today.

The plant will receive natural gas from CNX, and work is anticipated to start on it in Mingo County, West Virginia, in 2024. The ARCH2 Hydrogen Hub application that the U.S. Department of Energy is now considering will include the ammonia plant as a “anchor project.”

Dominion Energy Utah begins hydrogen blending

Hydrogen blending was started by Dominion Energy Utah (DEU) in Delta, Utah as a part of an ongoing experiment to investigate the possibilities presented by this fuel with no carbon emissions.

The next phase of the ThermH2 project, being led by Dominion Energy Utah, is the mixing in Delta’s pipes. In order to validate existing hydrogen research, the initial phase concentrated on blending hydrogen in the utility’s training academy. After testing a 5% hydrogen blend for over a year, it was discovered that hydrogen was secure, suitable for use with present home appliances, and useful for cutting emissions from natural gas-burning appliances that were already burning cleanly.

The process of blending in Delta will take place over a number of years to support the Training Academy’s conclusions and enable DEU reach its objective of getting its whole distribution system ready for blending by 2030. Over 1800 customers will be served by the introduction of a blend with a maximum of 5% in the city and its neighbouring communities of Oasis, Hinkley, and Deseret. Later this year, the project will upgrade to green hydrogen from grey hydrogen. The majority of the hydrogen blended throughout the project will be green hydrogen produced using renewable energy.
