Italy’s Snam optimistic on getting priority status for two multibillion-euro energy projects

According to the chief executive of the gas grid operator on Tuesday, Italy’s Snam (SRG.MI) is optimistic that the European Commission would give priority status to two multibillion-euro energy projects it is funding on hydrogen and carbon capture.

According to Stefano Venier, at a press conference, the two projects—a hydrogen pipeline that would transport hydrogen from southern Italy to Austria and Germany and an Italian-French plan to transport, liquefy, and store carbon dioxide—should be eligible as EU Projects of Common Interest (PCI).

Shanghai Fengling Renewables to invest in Serbian hydrogen

Shanghai Fengling Renewables, a Chinese company, has informed Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović about its intention to invest in green hydrogen and other renewable energy sources in Serbia. According to the government, Minister Đedović Handanović underlined that this investment will establish Serbia as a significant producer and exporter of hydrogen in Europe.

The construction of solar power plants and wind farms, energy storage for hydrogen production, and hydrogen-based energy production are all expected to require investments totaling about EUR 2 billion.

She stated that although 1,500 MW is the planned capacity, it is anticipated to reach 2,000 MW.

Success in first domestic hydrogen-doped natural gas pipeline explosion test

Kuai Technology reported that the first domestic hydrogen-doped natural gas pipeline discharge jet fire test and the confined space leakage and explosion test were successfully carried out a few days ago, based on the official Weibo post of the state-owned Xiaoxin.

It is known that hydrogen-infused transportation in natural gas pipes involves mixing hydrogen with natural gas before being transported via the network of natural gas pipelines that is currently in place.

As is well knowledge, scientists have traditionally focused their research on the safety of hydrogen in transportation. High temperatures and high pressure can be very destructive in the event that a hydrogen-doped pipeline bursts because of the properties of hydrogen itself.
