RATP Dev launches hydrogen bus training centre

The National Training Centre, a cutting-edge facility for maintaining buses driven by hydrogen, has opened in La Roche-sur-Yon, according to a release from RATP Dev. This joint project by RATP Dev, CNAM, La Roche-sur-Yon Conurbation, and Vendée Energy Syndicate, located on the Atinéa site, intends to address transportation-related sustainability issues.

The center, which was created as a consequence of RATP Dev and the urban transportation public service delegation contract renewal, is only dedicated to training technicians in the repair of hydrogen-powered vehicles. It is consistent with Atinéa’s overarching goal of establishing a center of excellence for sustainable mobility and renewable energy.

Advanced Ionics makes leadership changes

The low-cost green hydrogen electrolyzer developer Advanced Ionics, which is concentrating on quickening the decarbonization process, announced that Ignacio Bincaz has joined the leadership team as Chief Commercial Officer and John Jung has been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer. The company’s global expansion, enhanced production capabilities, and next-generation pilot initiatives are all planned by the new executives. These hires come after the business completed a successful Series A financing round earlier this year.

PTT GC and MHI-AP to utilize hydrogen for petrochemical plant

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. (MHI-AP) to collaboratively investigate the technologies needed to build a large-scale petrochemical complex that will enable Thailand’s carbon neutrality by 2050. The research of low-carbon fuels like hydrogen and ammonia, as well as carbon capture and storage technologies, will be the focus of this partnership between GC and MHI-AP.

The MOU contains two primary goals to evaluate the viability of implementing decarbonization technology to GC’s assets over a four-year period. The first is to study the viability of fueling gas turbines with hydrogen and ammonia in addition to CCS technologies to lower carbon dioxide emissions from power plants. The evaluation of the most effective applications and optimizations of CCS technology for the Steam-Methane Reforming (SMR) process is the second goal. MHI-AP will help with this by offering ammonia and hydrogen combustion gas turbines, in addition to carbon capture technology.

HYDROCOW gets €5.5 million to make whey protein from carbon and hydrogen

The European Innovation Council (EIC) Pathfinder program has granted €5.5 million ($6 million) to a consortium headed by the Finnish foodtech company Solar Foods to support HYDROCOW, a project to produce whey protein through precision fermentation using microbes fed carbon dioxide and hydrogen instead of sugars.

The group, which includes researchers from the Universities of Groningen and RWTH Aachen University, Solar Foods, and Ginkgo Bioworks subsidiary FGEn AG, will genetically modify hydrogen oxidizing bacteria (HOB) to transform carbon from CO2 gas and hydrogen (obtained from water through electrolysis) into beta-lactoglobulin, a whey protein found in cow’s milk.

Anglo American invests in Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies for establishment of HET Hydrogen

Leading global miner Anglo American has provided a strategic investment to Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies for the establishment of a newly formed subsidiary, HET Hydrogen Pte Ltd, with the goal of producing hydrogen electrolysers to aid in the decarbonization of sectors like transportation, steel production, and fertilizer manufacturing.

HET Hydrogen (HET) intends to commercialize megawatt (MW) scale electrolyser modules as soon as possible. To do this, HET will leverage the strong PEM technology heritage of Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies as well as the financial and technical support of Anglo American, one of the world’s top producers of platinum group metals (PGMs) that facilitate electrolysis.

PGMs are essential to the commercialization of PEM electrolysers, and HET and Anglo American will collaborate to maximize PGM utilization to support the further development of PEM electrolyser technology.

NEOEx Systems secured defense contract for hydrogen drone flight system

Under the direction of its founder, Mark Haberbusch, NEOEx Systems has secured a large defense contract. With the help of the contract, NEOEx may continue developing a drone flight system that runs on hydrogen, which is cleaner and more efficient. This development could significantly increase the range of drones, which would be advantageous to both the military and the private sector.

Following seven years of intense development at a hangar at Lorain County Regional Airport, NEOEx Systems, Inc., located in Ohio, has achieved a major technological advancement in the field of drone flight. With a strong expertise in cryogenic power systems and aerospace, founder Mark Haberbusch has guided his business to a lucrative government contract, investing $6.4 million in the development of hydrogen-powered drone flight.
