In order to strengthen efforts targeted at the “energy transition,” the University of Burgos (UBU) and the business Capital Energy have signed a collaboration agreement that will encourage the development of renewable sources, namely green hydrogen.

According to Manuel Pérez Mateos, the rector, this agreement was created with the goal of “putting the company staff in contact” with the research groups of the UBU, which is currently leading a “important project” of green hydrogen along with the other public universities in Castilla y León. Additionally, this agreement was created to coordinate the Complementary Plan, on a European level, on this energy source in order to transform hydrogen into ammonia or methane for its subsequent use.

The prospect of “creating bases for collaboration,” focused on “specialized training,” for the Master in Technologies of Hydrogen that the UBU aims to offer soon, according to Jess Alegre Calderón, a professor of Mechanics of Continuous Media at the Escuela Politécnica Superior. To include “businesses and technology centers” and support Capital Energy in the “deployment of new projects” is what is hoped to accomplish in this way.

For its part, the energy business hopes to “encourage various projects in the realm of new energy vectors such as hydrogen” by acting as a “key agent linked to the regions.” Starting from this assumption, Capital Energy’s regional director, Vctor Fernández González, highlighted the Territorios Project, which is being considered in six municipalities, including Burgos, around the nation with the goal of “stimulating local economies, fix population, and attract employment ».

Fernández González believes that in order to “support local firms,” this dedication to promoting renewable energies “will become very crucial in the future.” The University will execute “startup and entrepreneur training” through the Center for Rural Innovation, favoring the “dynamization” of the region through “energy transition projects,” according to the rector.
