The Ukrainian government-owned oil and gas firm Naftogaz is to start exploring the idea of storing hydrogen underground.

‘Ukrtransgaz has a number of memorandums with European underground gas storage operators, which have been moving in this direction for several years and have actually come to test the reality of the capabilities of the equipment and reservoir for hydrogen storage,’ says Roman Kokhtiuk, chief engineer of JSC Ukrtransgaz.

The conflict has forced significant alterations to this plan, but it is believed that Naftogaz will soon commence the realization of this project.
