The Université Libre de Bruxelles has announced a tender titled “La fourniture d’un groupe CHP industriel fonctionnant à l’hydrogène en basé sur un moteur à piston.” Published on March 25, 2025, the tender invites submissions by April 2, 2025.
This project is significant for the hydrogen industry as it seeks to develop a combined heat and power (CHP) system powered by hydrogen, in line with sustainable energy goals.
The main objective of the tender is to supply a hydrogen engine system housed in a container, which includes a heat recovery unit and associated systems for establishing a complete CHP infrastructure. This system will not only generate electricity but also efficiently redirect thermal losses to supply heat to a building through an appropriate network. This initiative is important as it aligns with the EU’s plans for sustainable and efficient energy solutions, leveraging hydrogen’s potential as a clean energy source.
Tender requirements specify that the engine must be capable of operating both on pure natural gas and a combination of natural gas and hydrogen, allowing for flexibility in fuel use. The amount of hydrogen injected should be controllable, highlighting the adaptability of the system to varying energy inputs.
