Vattenfall has taken the final investment decision to build South Kyle wind farm, which will be able to power around 170.000 UK homes, saving nearly 300.000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Vattenfall has entered into a partnership with the renewable infrastructure fund Greencoat UK Wind as an integral part of the project, that will buy the wind farm after it is completed.

“The planned construction of the South Kyle wind farm shows our commitment to the United Kingdom and its transition to climate neutrality as well as delivering on Vattenfall’s goal to enable fossil free living within one generation.”

Magnus Hall, CEO Vattenfall.

Vattenfall will build the wind farm and operate the assets for at least 10 years on behalf of Greencoat. They will also buy the power for a 15-year term.

“The transition towards a fossil free future is in full swing and requires large investments in renewable energy. Therefore, we are delighted to be partnering with Greencoat UK Wind and realize the South Kyle wind farm. South Kyle will significantly contribute to the renewable energy production in Scotland.”

Gunnar Groebler, senior VP and head of business area wind at Vattenfall.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a construction timeline is yet to be confirmed.
