Lisa Dunsmore, Ph.D., and Felipe Mojica, M.S., both mechanical engineers, have joined Versogen’s multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.

The new hires will be in charge of designing and constructing Versogen’s first 1 kW electrolyzer, which will generate green hydrogen using an anion exchange membrane (AEM). Their work will be focused on improving the membrane electrode assembly, which is the core component of this advanced technology (MEA).

Lisa Dunsmore, Ph.D., MEA Development Engineer, joins the Versogen team with a wealth of fuel cell fabrication and testing experience. Dunsmore optimized cathode morphology and MEA fabrication in her previous work using a combination of modeling and experiments to help achieve state-of-the-art efficiency for platinum group metal-free (PGM-free) proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a doctorate of mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Felipe Mojica, a mechanical engineer with a master’s degree, will use his experience designing, analyzing, and characterizing MEA and cell hardware to improve low-cost water electrolysis cells. At the University of California, he worked on novel flow field design, and at Robert Bosch GmbH, he worked on fuel cell MEA growth. He graduated from the University of California, Merced, with a master’s and bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

“Our recent selection for the highly competitive GCxN Shell GameChanger™ program, coupled with the addition of Lisa and Felipe to our growing team, will advance the commercialization of our new class of zero-emission AEM electrolyzer technology. We plan to complete a 1 kW prototype by the end of the year and a MW stack by the end of 2022.”

Yushan Yan, CEO of Versogen

“I look forward to developing state-of-the-art electrolyzer technology to decarbonize heavy, hard-to-abate industries by producing low-cost green hydrogen.”

Lisa Dunsmore, Ph.D., MEA Development Engineer

“I am excited to join a dynamic team with a shared vision to create a sustainable energy future by leveraging the potential of hydrogen.”
