Volvo Trucks will be the first automobile manufacturer to use stainless steel in its trucks.SSAB, a Swedish steel firm, will supply this pure metal using novel hydrogen-based technology. This technique of production will have a substantially lower environmental effect than conventional steel.
This new metal will be used in the construction of Volvo electric trucks starting in the third quarter of 2022. It will be utilized to create automotive chassis rails, which serve as the foundation for the assembly of the vehicle’s primary components. As this pure metal becomes more readily available, it will be utilized to fix other elements of Swedish car repair vehicles.
Vehicles that have no negative influence on the environment
Since last year, Volvo has been collaborating with SSAB on green metal development. The first machine they built with this metal is a carrier, which they unveiled to the public in October of 2021.
“Not only in terms of operating but also in terms of building, we will utilize a lot more oil-free materials to create our trucks to make them zero-impact climate vehicles.” Jessica Sandström, Volvo Trucks’ senior vice president of product management, agrees.
