The Vomela Companies has installed a solar array at its new corporate headquarters in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Roughly 3,400 panels have been installed, producing up to 1.3 megawatts of DC energy. That’s enough energy to power 200 typical MN metro homes and will provide for roughly a third of total annual energy usage for the facility.

The Vomela Companies worked with a local company, Impact Power Solutions, to get the project completed.

“What started out as a niche product has entered the mainstream, mainly due to drastic technology and price improvements over the last decade.

“For new construction projects it’s best to consult with the design team early on. Vomela needed to upsize the roof joists to accommodate additional weight for solar which averages about five pounds per square foot. This eliminated any need for attachments or holes in the roof. We also worked with the electrical design team to make sure the solar project integrated with the building’s infrastructure efficiently.”

Eric Pasi, chief development officer at Impact Power Solutions.

This project is the largest solar array in all of Saint Paul. The system is capable of offsetting roughly 2,400,000 pounds of CO2 each year.

This decrease in emissions is equivalent to planting 48,000 trees per year.
