VSB has started construction on a 40MW wind farm in Finland which will consist of 7 Nordex N163/5.X wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 5.7 MW. The wind farm is expected to be operational by summer 2022.
The project is situated on the west coast of Finland near Kalajoki, in the Northern Ostrobothnia area. The Nordex N163/5.X turbines are to be built some 7 kilometers from the coastline of the Gulf of Bothnia. VSB plans to complete the wind farm and associated substation by the summer of 2022.
“Finland aims to be climate neutral by 2035. An ambitious target that we will actively help to achieve by increasing wind energy. ‘Juurakko’ is our first Finnish wind farm and part of this mission.”
Seppo Tallgren, country manager at VSB Uusiutuva Energia Suomi Oy.
Construction of the 40 MW wind farm will begin in spring 2021. Infrastructure and foundations are planned to be completed by fall of this year. Installation of the wind turbines will start in March 2022 following a winter break.
The turbine manufacturer Nordex will supply the latest turbine technology for this VSB wind farm, which will be deployed in Finland for the very first time.
In addition to an anti-icing system, the N163/5.X model will be optimized in the cold climate version to ensure reliably high yields even under Nordic weather conditions.
