Pathways to biohydrogen from biogas involve microbial processes to produce hydrogen gas from organic materials in biogas. The webinar discussed biohydrogen production, exploring various pathways, challenges, and future directions.

The webinar, sponsored by Bio360 Expo, included several speakers being Patrick Peters, CEO at Spark Cleantech; Matti Malkamaki, Chairman at Hycamite; and David Farrusseng, CTO at MOFapps and research professor at CNRS.

Strategies discussed include leveraging biogas with natural gas, using biogas directly, and developing technology for transporting biogas economically. The panel discussed promising technologies for separating hydrogen from biogas mixtures, with a focus on methane splitting technologies.

Economic drivers for biohydrogen production costs include the higher cost of producing biogas compared to natural gas, but blending with natural gas and using low-carbon technologies can mitigate this. The speakers discussed the transition from lab-scale to commercial-scale production, emphasizing the need for modular approaches and innovative technologies.

The discussion touched upon the complexity of carbon markets, differentiating between carbon black and other carbon materials, and the potential impact on pricing. The panelists discussed the maturity levels of different biohydrogen production technologies, highlighting the difficulty in comparing high-mature and low-mature technologies.
