Tarragona EMT gets hydrogen from Carburos Metálicos

The Tarragona City Council has awarded a contract to the Air Products group company Carburos Metálicos to deliver renewable hydrogen to the municipal fleet of buses in the Catalan city.

The equipment required to feed hydrogen to the buses run by the Tarragona Municipal Transport Company (EMT) will also be provided by Carburos Metálicos. In addition, “hydrogen is produced in the same province, which is why the creation of a local ecosystem around this energy vector is encouraged, which will be key in the process of energy transition and decarbonization of mobility in urban transport,” it was claimed.

In addition to the three already purchased and soon-to-be-in-service electric buses with hydrogen fuel cells, the Board of Directors of the EMT of Tarragona plans to replace up to half of its fleet with these vehicles.


USP to power buses with hydrogen from 2024

On Thursday (10/08), the world’s first renewable hydrogen fuelling station using ethanol was launched. When finished in July 2024, the station will create 4.5 kilos of hydrogen per hour and will power three buses that will travel throughout the University of Sao Paulo (USP). The objective is to assess the reformers’ performance for 10 months before establishing a factory capable of producing 45.5 kilograms (kg) of hydrogen per hour.

The filling station is the product of a project by the RCGI, a Polytechnic School (Poli-USP) Engineering Research Center (CPE) founded by FAPESP and Shell. The RCGI is one of 22 CPEs financed by the Foundation in collaboration with businesses.


HydrogenPro increases involvement in FEED studies for green hydrogen

Manufacturer of electrolyzers HydrogenPro in Norway has declared a greater commitment to front-end engineering design (FEED) research for environmentally friendly hydrogen projects. With an additional 2 GW of studies in the contract negotiation phase, the business is now working on FEED studies with a total capacity of 1.3 GW. Despite a slowdown in large-scale project final investment choices, HydrogenPro believes there is a rising market for green hydrogen. Despite this, the company’s involvement in FEED studies places it in a good position for obtaining future electrolyzer orders and generating money.

It is anticipated that major industrial players from the energy and utility industries will dominate the expanding large-scale green hydrogen market. The strategy of HydrogenPro is in accordance with this objective, and the business’s sales pipeline is still strong with minimal project cancellations. The company plans to make a number of final investment decisions in the upcoming months and is particularly focused on the US market. Large-scale initiatives focused on sustainable aviation fuels, synthetic fuels, and ammonia are anticipated to receive support from the US’s Inflation Reduction Act. Through a joint venture arrangement akin to its fruitful collaboration in China, HydrogenPro intends to increase its manufacturing capacity in the US.
