Hydrofuel Canada secures US patent, completes prototype for micro ammonia production system

Hydrofuel Canada has announced the issuance of US Patent 11,885,029 “Systems and Methods for Forming Nitrogen-Based Compounds” alongside the completion of their commercial prototype of Micro Ammonia Production System (MAPS 1.0). The MAPS 1.0 technology marks a significant advancement in sustainable ammonia synthesis from air and water through a gas-phase electrochemical process.

Hydrofuel’s MAPS 1.0 and 2.0 technologies greatly diminish both the costs and energy requirements of manufacturing ammonia (NH3). The technologies’ high yield production makes it feasible to operate several 381-ton-per-year units either in series or parallel to augment capacity.

MAPS 1.0, priced at US$700,000, utilizes externally sourced hydrogen (H2) for ammonia synthesis by combining it with nitrogen from the air. The system’s output, hence, corresponds to the type of H2 used—if the hydrogen used is green, the resulting ammonia will also be green.

3M and KSOE joined forces for liquid hydrogen storage

A contract is signed by 3M and Hyundai Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (KSOE).
The two businesses have joined forces for a collaborative research effort aimed at creating sizable liquid hydrogen storage tanks fitted with an advanced vacuum insulation technology. Glass Bubbles, hollow glass microspheres with a low density and great resilience, are used in this technology by 3M.

Norwegian Hydrogen’s Hellesylt Hydrogen Hub kicks off with equipment arrival

At Norwegian Hydrogen’s green hydrogen production hub in Hellesylt, Norway, equipment has begun to arrive. When it starts operating later this year, this facility will have the capacity to produce up to 1.3 tons of hydrogen per day, making it the largest producer of green hydrogen in Norway.
All plant equipment, including electrolyzers, compressors, storage systems, and a high-capacity, cutting-edge heavy-duty vehicle refueling station, will be delivered to the company in the upcoming weeks.

With this step, a significant phase that includes installation, setup, and testing activities begins and will go through the summer.

Tenova gets Nippon Steel’s contract for Experimental Direct Reduction plant

A contract for an Experimental Direct Reduction plant (EDRP) run by Nippon Steel Corporation was recently granted to Tenova, a Technint Group company and a pioneer in the development and supply of sustainable solutions for the green transition of the metals industry. The contract was given by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to Tenova. One of the most well-known steel makers in the world and the largest steelmaker in Japan is Nippon Steel Corporation. The factory will be situated within Nippon Steel Corporation’s Hasaki R&D Center.

The facility will be used to show and test the development of technology for direct hydrogen reduction, which intends to reduce low-grade iron ore using only hydrogen, in accordance with the goals and objectives of NEDO’s Green Innovation Fund.

GKN Aerospace joins HyFIVE collaboration

In the HyFIVE collaboration, GKN Aerospace collaborates with Marshall, Parker Meggitt, University of Manchester, University of Bath, and Cardiff University.
A major step in realizing GKN Aerospace’s goal of creating a strong cryogenic hydrogen systems supply chain for next aircraft is the consortium partnership. A £40 million program that includes considerable funding from the government and industry and is backed by the UK Aerospace Technology Institute has been secured.

Marshall and Parker’s extensive knowledge of fuel systems is complemented by GKN Aerospace’s expertise in aircraft structures and cryogenic hydrogen systems technology.
