UK and AUS partner on marine hydrogen project

In an effort to promote decarbonization in the marine industry, the Federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water has announced that it will contribute to the Hydrogen Zero Emission marine (HyZEM) initiative in part.

Innovate UK will contribute £1.44 million ($A2.77 million) to the initiative, and the Federal Government will contribute an equivalent amount. Major UK port Freeport East welcomed the announcement and expressed appreciation for the large investment made in the global green hydrogen initiative.

The goal of the HyZEM project is to provide green hydrogen technology with low carbon emissions for powerful workboats. Leading Australian and UK companies that specialize in green hydrogen storage and propulsion technologies are part of the AUS-UK alliance, which was brokered by Freeport East.
