Masdar researches creating green hydrogen in Azerbaijan
According to Masdar Azerbaijan’s director, Murad Sadikhov, the Masdar corporation, which is headquartered in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is actively doing research on creating green hydrogen in Azerbaijan.
He mentioned that Masdar has been working with the Ministries of Economy and Energy of Azerbaijan to perform research on hydrogen production.
According to a report by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)-sponsored consultancy firm Advisian, Azerbaijan has a large potential to supply low-carbon hydrogen. This is because there are well-established downstream markets for methanol and ammonia, as well as large-scale natural gas distribution networks that have the capacity to produce hydrogen.
Hamburger Hafen und Logistik opens hydrogen test field
In the Port of Hamburg, a test field for hydrogen uses has opened. Heavy-duty vehicles propelled by hydrogen will undergo practical testing at Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG’s (HHLA) Tollerort container terminal in Steinwerder.
At the terminals, trucks that move containers are part of the hydrogen test field. Battery-powered vehicles are inappropriate because the cars are used continuously, according to HHLA. Other vehicles like van carriers and container stackers will run on hydrogen in the future.
Liebherr introduces hydrogen ICE-powered loader
In a live demonstration in Salzburg, Austria, Liebherr introduced a huge wheel loader powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE) fuelled by hydrogen.
The prototype machine, designated L 566 H, is being used at the company’s Bischofshofen facility. It is propelled by a reciprocating piston engine that is produced at Liebherr’s engine plant in Bulle, Switzerland.
According to the maker of heavy-duty machinery, hydrogen internal combustion engines (ICEs) “prove to be ideal” for larger machines with working weights of up to 40 tonnes, even though battery-electric solutions would be appropriate for vehicles up to 15 tonnes.
Baker Hughes introduces new hydrogen measurement technologies
Three novel gas, flow, and moisture measurement sensor technologies from Baker Hughes are intended to improve safety and increase productivity in hydrogen applications as well as other applications in the energy and industrial sectors.
The recently released Panametrics products meet the growing need for accurate measurements in difficult conditions by providing increased accuracy, durability, and reliability.
ClassNK grants AiP for tanker equipped with hydrogen-compatible engine
A 5,000 KL tanker design concept that is supported by an electric propulsion system and hydrogen engine developed by Uyeno Transtech, Yanmar Power Technology, and Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding has received an Approval in Principle (AiP) from ClassNK.
This is the first AiP certification for a tanker’s design that uses liquefied hydrogen as fuel in history.
The Nippon Foundation’s “Development of a Large-Scale Hydrogen-Fueled Domestic Tanker and Demonstration of Zero-Emission Ships” project was responsible for the ship’s design.
