Worley has secured service contracts for Shell’s Holland Hydrogen 1 (HH1) project in the Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands.

The primary goal of the Holland Hydrogen 1 project is to spearhead the production of renewable hydrogen on a large scale. The 200MW electrolyzer, fueled by energy from an offshore wind farm, is set to be a game-changer in the renewable energy landscape. Once operational, HH1 will boast a daily output of approximately 60,000 kg of hydrogen, a crucial resource for decarbonizing industrial processes and supporting the heavy transportation sector.

Worley, through its service contracts, will play a pivotal role in the realization of HH1’s objectives. The scope includes detailed design, procurement, and construction management, emphasizing critical integration with key components such as offshore wind infrastructure, pipelines, electrical grids, and the refinery. This comprehensive approach underscores the complexity of establishing large-scale renewable hydrogen infrastructure and highlights the importance of collaboration between industry leaders like Shell and Worley.

The renewable hydrogen produced by HH1 will initially be utilized at Shell’s Energy & Chemicals Park in Rotterdam. This strategic application aims to partially decarbonize fossil fuel production and promote the use of hydrogen in heavy transportation. By integrating green hydrogen into industrial processes, the project aligns with broader sustainability goals, contributing to a significant reduction in carbon emissions.
