Vertex Hydrogen has awarded Worley a contract for project management services for its low-carbon hydrogen generation plant at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Ellesmere Port.

The 350 MW facility is the first in the UK to have completed front-end engineering and is anticipated to be one of the world’s first large-scale and low-carbon hydrogen plants.

The project will enable industrial enterprises in the United Kingdom to shift away from fossil fuels by absorbing around 600,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. It is also a key part of HyNet, one of the two Track 1 clusters for industrial decarbonization supported by the UK Government.

“Hydrogen has the potential to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors, and this project is essential to the decarbonization journey of the HyNet low-carbon cluster in the UK,” said Chris Gill, Vice President Low-carbon Hydrogen at Worley.

The substitution of fossil fuels with low-carbon hydrogen

Our scope of work will encompass the inside battery limit of the manufacturing facility as well as the required outside battery limit works. It also involves assistance in establishing the infrastructure required to link to feedstocks, products, and refinery modifications to accept low-carbon hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels for powering production. Our British teams will deliver the task with the assistance of our international specialists.
