Yamaha Corporations, together with partners Roush and Regulator Marine, unveiled the world’s first hydrogen-powered outboard motor for recreational boats, marking a significant step towards environmentally-friendly boating solutions.
The Yamaha H2 concept is designed to change the landscape of marine engines, aiming for carbon neutrality in the boating industry by 2050. According to Grant Suzuki, Chief of Technology at Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit, the goal of exhibiting at SEMA is to highlight that there is no single solution for creating carbon-neutral technologies, with hydrogen being a promising option.
The hydrogen outboard features a bespoke fuel system developed by Roush combined with a Regulator Marine hull. This new technology exemplifies Yamaha’s determination to incorporate various technologies to reach carbon neutrality. It represents a significant step forward, with plans for integration with sustainable marine fuels and electric options, enhancing Yamaha’s strategies for reducing emissions.
