Yara Clean Ammonia, along with Hystar, Equinor, and Gassco, has joined the HyPilot initiative.
Gassco plans to install a PEM electrolyser at the Krst Gas Processing Plant in Rogaland, Norway, in the second half of 2023.
Green ammonia is of particular interest to Yara. The goal of the HyPilot project is to show that Hystar’s electrolysers can produce cheap, environmentally friendly hydrogen. The 1 MW containerized electrolyser will operate as part of the plan for a total of 10,000 operating hours. Information about its effectiveness for the companies can be gleaned from this.
The Hystar electrolyser has a thinner membrane than competing technologies. The reduced resistance, according to the manufacturer, allows for greater efficiency.
Hydrogen produced using renewable electricity is expected to become 30% less expensive by 2030, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). Hystar claims it is already able to achieve or exceed these goals.
