Yokogawa Australia, a subsidiary of the corporation, has secured an order from Monford Group to provide an energy management system (EMS) for the Yuri Green Hydrogen Project, a significant step towards green hydrogen production in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The Yuri Green Hydrogen Project, managed by Yuri Operations Pty Ltd (a joint venture between ENGIE Renewables Australia Pty Ltd and Mitsui & Co., Ltd), is on a mission to build an industrial-scale renewable hydrogen production complex. This ambitious endeavor will feature an 18-megawatt solar power plant, an 8-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS), and a 10-megawatt electrolyzer. These technologies will harness carbon-free solar energy to produce up to 640 tons of green hydrogen annually. This green hydrogen will serve as a crucial feedstock for the adjacent Yara Pilbara Fertiliser Pty Ltd (YPF) ammonia plant, operated by Yara International ASA, one of the world’s leading nitrogen-based mineral fertilizer producers.

Yokogawa Australia, in partnership with PXiSE Energy Solutions LLC, a Yokogawa Group company, will supply the EMS for this groundbreaking project. The EMS, combined with an integrated control system (ICS), will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the solar power plant, BESS, and electrolyzer. This intelligent system will autonomously manage renewable energy production to ensure stability and power quality, considering factors like the operating requirements of the ammonia plant and weather conditions.

PXiSE’s grid control solutions have already received high praise through their implementation in Western Australia’s Horizon Power project. These solutions, known for their reliability, are set to expand to 34 additional Horizon Power microgrids.
