30,000 MW electrolysis delivery capacity possible by 2030

A total yearly supply capacity of over 30,000 megawatts can be achieved for electrolyzers used in green hydrogen generation by the year 2030. (30 GW).

To find out how much hydrogen and fuel cells can be produced by 2030, the German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (DWV) polled its members. ITM Power GmbH / Linde AG, MAN Energy Solutions SE / H-TEC SYSTEMS GmbH, Siemens Energy AG, Sunfire GmbH, and Thyssenkrupp Nucera AG & Co. KGaA are some of the firms who participated in the study..

A maximum of 16,250 MW (16.25 GW) per year is expected to be available in 2025, according to estimations from the firms; in 2030, the capacity would be 27,800 MW (27.8 GW). According to the DWV’s perspective, these numbers are highly encouraging, since they are significantly over the traffic light coalition’s current aim of 10,000 MW (10 GW) in electrolysis capacity in Germany by 2030.

In 2030, the DWV predicts a maximum yearly turnover of $13.1 billion. There will be a net gain of 65,800 new jobs. In 2030, hydrogen output might reach 72.3 TWh, according to estimates.

An economic model for a green hydrogen economy, in accordance with 2030’s climate targets, maybe implemented “with confidence,” according to DWV findings. In order to ensure a safe investment, the federal government must first establish a political framework. According to the DWV, now is the time to take action to increase the independence, security, and sustainability of Germany’s energy supply through the use of green hydrogen.

As DWV CEO Werner Diwald points out: “The facts are clear: Green hydrogen may provide a decisive share of Germany’s future renewable energy supply far more quickly and in much greater amounts than previously envisaged by lawmakers.”
