Marine Energy Wales (MEW) has welcomed RWE Renewables as a premium member.

RWE Renewables is one of the world’s leading producers of renewable energy. RWE now stands as the world’s second largest offshore wind developer and third largest provider of renewable electricity across Europe.

In the Wales, RWE Renewables is a major player, generating over a third of the nation’s renewable energy. The company now employs over 100 people across its four offices in Wales, with a diverse portfolio of onshore and offshore wind and hydro.

“Wales is a special place for RWE having invested £3 billion in the past decade to establish a proud record of building world-leading projects here. We built the first commercial offshore wind farm in Wales and we are working on a really exciting pipeline of opportunities that we hope will kick-start a new era of offshore investment. These projects could not only bring us closer towards net zero targets but also create long term skilled jobs and business opportunities. We are proud to join with Marine Energy Wales to work across sectors and with all stakeholders to bring more investment to Wales.”

Alex Meredith, Offshore Wind investment manager at RWE Renewables.

“Marine Energy Wales represents wave, tidal stream, tidal range and more recently has included floating offshore wind in its emerging marine renewables portfolio. We work to develop these homegrown industries and ensure Wales remains a global leader in this field. It is brilliant to welcome RWE Renewables as a premium member of MEW. As a key player in this growing industry, we look forward to working collaboratively with the team at RWE and fellow MEW members as we develop a pipeline of projects in Welsh Waters.

“We hope that, as secretariat of the Celtic Sea Alliance, we will be able to help in the recognition and realization of strategic opportunities for Welsh supply chain stakeholders, working in conjunction with our members to develop co-beneficial relationships through the development of the Celtic Sea. RWEs interest in Floating Offshore Wind is tell-tale of the momentum building behind this emerging marine renewable technology and one that has natural synergies across our marine renewable interests. “

Jess Hooper, programme manager for Marine Energy Wales.
