The first 100 percent hydrogen-powered homes will have MeteRSit hydrogen meters built.
The houses, which are being built in Low Thornley (near Gateshead) in the north of England on the site of UK gas distributor Northern Gas Networks (NGN), are intended to demonstrate the practical use of hydrogen-powered household appliances and systems for domestic use for heating and cooking.
The houses should be finished by the end of May 2021. An groundbreaking project resulting from a collaboration between the British gas distributor and Cadent, as well as the UK government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
The project aims to establish a safe, effective, and technologically advanced use of hydrogen for private homes and commercial buildings, with each partner contributing 250,000 pounds.
MeteRSit, a SIT Group company that designs and manufactures smart gas meters and is involved in the British Hy4Heat program’s hydrogen meter experimentation, has been selected as one of the manufacturers of meters that will enable the safe delivery of hydrogen, thanks to the DomusNext® H2 meter, which will allow consumption data reading.
