Estonian Ministry of Defense finances hydrogen generation project

The Estonian Ministry of Defence awarded PowerUP Fuel Cells OÜ €88,463 ($104,000) for its 6kW hydrogen fuel cell tactical generator.

This represents 22% of the entire cost of the UP6K project.

The Estonian Ministry of Defence is investing €500,000 ($593,000) in six forward-thinking defense sector projects to familiarize the forces with innovative ideas and test new technologies.

These innovations may also contribute to ensuring Estonia’s defense capabilities while also promoting environmentally sustainable battlefield energy sources.

Hydrogen-powered generators offer a number of advantages, including zero-emission operation and a quieter operating environment when compared to diesel-powered generators.

This is the latest in a string of military initiatives to incorporate hydrogen technology into their arsenals, with South Korea adding hydrogen-powered drones and the US financing a wearable fuel cell.
