The market survey “Hydrogen generation and demand” was conducted by bayernets GmbH in collaboration with German transmission system operators for the gas network development plan 2022-2032.
H2 project promoters, distribution network operators, and connection customers were notified in March, and a large number of questions have since been answered. The transmission system operators, in collaboration with the respective market partner, verified the reports and incorporated them into the network development plan’s scenario framework.
There were 39 hydrogen projects reported for the Free State of Bavaria alone, out of 500 total. The high number demonstrates the growing importance of hydrogen and green gases in gas infrastructure. The transmission system operators support the H2 project implementers and consider the reports when planning the development of a national and European hydrogen transportation infrastructure.
At the beginning of 2021, the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy began an expression of interest procedure for the European Commission’s “Important Projects of Common European Interest” (IPCEI) in order to promote hydrogen technologies and systems. The HyPipe Bavaria project idea was submitted by Bayernets GmbH.
Bayernets GmbH is committed to accelerating the development of an efficient hydrogen industry in Bavaria, Germany, and Europe. That is why, in collaboration with Open Grid Europe GmbH, bayernets developed the HyPipe Bavaria project (OGE). Hydrogen sources are connected to key needs in Bavaria by converting existing gas pipelines or using existing pipeline routes. HyPipe Bavaria – H2-Cluster Ingolstadt and Burghausen is part of the IPCEI project “Green Hydrogen @ Blue Danube,” which aims to meet the hydrogen needs of individual industrial companies by importing green hydrogen.
Due to the large number of project outlines submitted (over 200 in Germany), the Federal Ministry of Economics selected the projects that advanced to the second stage of the process at the end of May 2021. HyPipe Bavaria was not among the 60 projects chosen.
