GEV to fund study on exporting green hydrogen

Global Energy Ventures has signed a non-binding MoU with Province Resources and Total Eren (collectively, the HyEnergy Project partners) to fund a technical and commercial feasibility study on exporting green hydrogen from the HyEnergy Project in Western Australia’s Gascoyne region to nominated markets in the Asia-Pacific region.

GEV will conduct a feasibility study to determine the technical and commercial viability of the HyEnergy Project’s green hydrogen export. The scope of work comprises transporting hydrogen gas from an onshore production facility to an offshore ship loading buoy and ultimately to specified Asia-Pacific markets via GEV’s compressed hydrogen shipping system.

The goal of the Study is to instill sufficient trust in the HyEnergy Project’s partners to justify the adoption of compressed hydrogen as the preferred export technology during the project’s next phase of engineering.

The memorandum of understanding is non-binding, non-exclusive, and expires on December 31, 2022.

Martin Carolan, GEV Managing Director and CEO commented: “The HyEnergy Project is an ideal green hydrogen export project for our compressed hydrogen shipping solution given its strategic location on the W.A. Gascoyne coastline, within a regional distance to multiple Asian markets with a future requirement for imported hydrogen.”

David Frances, Province CEO stated: “The HyEnergy Project partners are keen to understand the benefits of compressed hydrogen in relation to other means of transporting our potential green hydrogen product to market. GEV are leaders in this technology and will bring that experience to the study.”

Province and Total Eren signed a formal memorandum of understanding in April 2021 to conduct a feasibility study in the hope of establishing a large green hydrogen project in Western Australia’s Shire of Carnarvon, in the Gascoyne region.

The project will be constructed in phases, with Total Eren owning up to 8 GW of installed renewable energy capacity and Total Eren and Province jointly owning downstream assets (50/50). The HyEnergy Project is currently conducting a scoping study with the goal of completing it in 2021.

Given its coastal location and proximity to numerous Asian markets with a future need for imported hydrogen, the project location is excellent for a prospective C-H2 shipping solution.
