The Green Hydrogen Project, which is funded by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), adopted Toray Industries and Siemens Energy, the Japanese affiliate of Siemens Energy AG (NEDO).
These two companies, as well as six other companies including the Yamanashi Prefectural Enterprises Bureau, will be receiving investment jointly with six other companies, including Tokyo Electric Power Company. Toray, a major PEM (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane) membrane manufacturer, is helping Siemens Energy and Toray to further develop and showcase PEM (PEM = Polymer Electrolyte Membrane) electrolysis technology that features novel membrane technology from Toray.
In order to contribute to the achievement of a carbon-neutral society around the world, we’ll use our hydrogen-related technologies, business, and global network to give ideal solutions.
The companies’ shared objective is to raise the bar in green hydrogen production by using revolutionary PEM water electrolysis to create green hydrogen using renewable energy sources. Due to the generation of green hydrogen, large-scale power generation and other electric power uses are simply a step on the path to other applications, including industrial, heating, and transportation.
Siemens Energy will use Toray’s unique hydrocarbon electrolyte membranes made utilizing Toray’s hydrocarbon membrane membranes. The two firms will collaborate to help Siemens Energy raise awareness about their large-scale PEM water electrolyzer and put these membranes into place.
