Jeonju Pyeonghwa-dong hydrogen refueling station opened

In Pyeonghwa-dong, Jeonju, an extra hydrogen charging station will be developed, which will be responsible for the supply and dispersion of hydrogen, which is gaining popularity as environmentally beneficial energy.

As a consequence, four hydrogen charging stations have been constructed in Jeonju: Pyeonghwa-dong, Songcheon, Samcheon, and Sangrim.

On the 30th, Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su and important officials attended the ‘Jeonju Peace Hydrogen Refueling Station Groundbreaking Ceremony’ at the site of the Jeil and Seongjin passenger garages (265-2 Pyeonghwa-dong) in Pyeonghwa-dong, Wansan-gu.

After being chosen for a public offering by the Korea Automobile Environment Association, an agency entrusted by the Ministry of Environment with the private subsidy business of the hydrogen charging station, Kohaigen, a company specializing in building and operating hydrogen infrastructure, opened the Jeonju Pyeonghwa hydrogen charging station in April.

By July of next year, 8.06 billion won will have been invested, including 4.2 billion won from the government.

The Pyeonghwa Charging Station, in particular, is a high-capacity charging station that can charge over 300 kilograms per hour and is planned to function as a distribution hub for environmentally friendly hydrogen vehicles like hydrogen city buses.

The city is building three hydrogen charging stations in accordance with the government’s hydrogen infrastructure expansion plan, such as the ‘Hydrogen Economy Revitalization Roadmap,’ starting with the Songcheon charging station in Jeonju last year and continuing with the Samcheon, Pyeonghwa, and Sangrim charging stations.

By 2022, the city wants to create a total of five hydrogen charging stations, including a fifth additional charging station that will be funded by a public offering.

Simultaneously, the city is aiming to reinvigorate the hydrogen infrastructure by providing 580 hydrogen automobiles, including 15 hydrogen city buses.

By 2025, the city plans to provide 2,000 hydrogen automobiles and construct eight hydrogen charging stations to serve them. The goal is to establish a hydrogen-first metropolis that will lead the hydrogen economy.

“Hydrogen charging stations are the most significant infrastructure for the transition to eco-friendly energy and carbon-neutral policies,” stated Kim Seung-su, Mayor of Jeonju City.
