The first foundation for Vattenfall’s offshore wind farm Kriegers Flak, offshore Denmark, has been placed on the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
As a part of the project 72 wind turbines will be installed on the foundations. The result will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm with a capacity that covers the annual electricity consumption of about 600,000 Danish households.

Installation of the foundations is expected to continue during the fall this year, while the installation of the wind turbines will begin in 2021. Despite restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kriegers Flak is planned to be fully operational by the end of 2021.
During the piling, a double bubble curtain will be placed around each foundation in order to dampen the noise so as to protect wildlife in the surrounding sea.
The monopile foundations are made by EEW-SPC in Rostock. Sockets from Bladt Industries will be mounted on top of the foundations. These will support the Siemens Gamesa wind turbines of 8.4 MW each. The foundations will be transported and installed by Van Oord.
