The Picea solution, a hydrogen-based energy storage system, will be installed in twelve homes in the Munich region by the Berlin-based business Home Power Solutions (HPS). For the purpose of supplying heat to the homes, a cooperation between the corporation and Hausdorf, a developer of residential real estate, has been launched.
HPS uses extra solar energy from summer to store hydrogen for use as a heat pump in the winter months. The rising cost of energy may be mitigated if some of the household’s electrical consumption could be met by the government. The first homes will be built in May of 2022, according to the current timeline.
New heating system installations in Germany will have to be fuelled by at least 65 percent renewable energy starting in 2025.
