To automate the majority of the processes involved in building Shell’s Holland Hydrogen I plant in Rotterdam, the oil and gas giant has contracted with Yokogawa Electric Corporation, a Japanese electrical engineering and software company.
Once operational in 2025, the plant is projected to be the largest renewable hydrogen plant in Europe by producing renewable hydrogen utilizing power from offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust Noord.
Yokogawa will be the primary contractor for the plant’s automation needs, and the company’s systems and machinery will be meticulously integrated to ensure maximum efficiency.
The electrolyser of the Holland Hydrogen I facility will have a capacity of 200 MW, allowing it to generate up to 60,000 kg of environmentally friendly hydrogen each day.
It is planned to send the green hydrogen produced at this plant via the HyTransPort pipeline to the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam, where it will be utilized to partially decarbonize the refinery’s production of energy goods like gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.
