According to a report recently published by the Shanxi Development and Reform Commission, the Shanxi province in China plans to have over 10,000 fuel cell vehicles (“FCV”) operating on highways by the end of 2025, with over 2,000 of those cars being stationed in Taiyuan, the province’s capital.
The medium- and long-term (2022–2035) planning for the growth of the regional hydrogen sector is outlined in this paper by Shanxi’s authorities.
According to the plan, Shanxi province’s FCV population will increase to 50,000 units by 2030. To help Shanxi reach carbon neutrality, it is also necessary to scale up the use of renewable energy sources in a variety of sectors, including transportation and energy storage, and to establish a hydrogen industrial cluster where businesses can be effectively deployed and can benefit from one another’s strengths.
In an effort to support the province’s transition to green and low-carbon energy development, Shanxi province anticipates that by 2035 a nation-leading hydrogen industrial cluster will emerge, and the percentage of renewable energy resources in the hydrogen manufacturing field should significantly increase.
Additionally, Shanxi province will work hard to be a part of one of China’s FCV demonstration cities. Focusing on the key links in the industrial supply chain, it will endeavor to develop regulations for governmental capital direction and assistance as well as increase the commercialization of research and scientific discoveries.
