Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) inked numerous term sheets with a number of developers specializing in green hydrogen projects, marking a significant step toward reaching sustainable energy targets.
The installed renewable energy capacity in Oman will need to be roughly 15 GW, and a total expenditure of about $20 billion is anticipated.
The agreements with Green Energy Oman (GEO), Green Hydrogen and Chemicals (owned by ACME), Hyport Duqm consortium, and SalalaH2 consortium, according to Hydrom, a subsidiary of Energy Development Oman, covered six projects near the ports of Duqm and Salalah, while the agreement with BP Alternative Energy Investments was for a project in Duqm and another in Dhofar.
In order for the Ministry of Energy and Mines, which is the sector’s policymaker and regulator, to issue a clear regulatory framework, preliminary agreements with these top energy corporations had to be reached, according to Hydrom Chairman Engineer Salim Al Aufi.
He claims that these initiatives are anticipated to produce over 700,000 tonnes of green hydrogen, which would be further processed in nearby companies and converted into exportable energy carriers.
