Twenty projects totaling 250MW of capacity have received funding through the Hydrogen Business Model (HBM)/Net Zero Hydrogen Fund process in England, Scotland, and Wales.
Carlton Power, Octopus Hydrogen, ScottishPower, SSE Renewables, and ERM Dolphyn have projects in development that are among those shortlisted for financing under the hydrogen program of the UK government. The first projects will start operating in 2025 after contracts are issued in Q4 of 2023.
Three locations, including Trafford in Greater Manchester, Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, and Langage near Plymouth in Devon, have been shortlisted by Carlton Power. ScottishPower has received financing for its Whitelee project in Scotland as well as for one in Cromarty, also in Scotland, which it is developing with Pale Blue Dot Energy. Octopus Hydrogen and RES both have three projects on the shortlist, one each in Scotland, Wales, and south-east England.
The remaining projects include SSE Thermal’s Aldbrough Hydrogen Pathfinder Project in Yorkshire, Hygen’s Bradford Low Carbon Hydrogen, Progressive Energy Net Zero’s Cheshire Green Hydrogen, ERM Dolphyn’s offshore wind connected demonstrator, Gigastack, SSE Renewables’ Gordonbush Hydrogen Project (GBH2), JG Pears’ H2 Production Plant at High Marnham in the east Midlands, HyBont, being developed by Marubeni Europower in Wales
