Paris Air Show commits e-fuel and hydrogen power to Washington

Washington Governor Jay Inslee said that sustainable energy firm Twelve, based in California, aims to establish an industrial facility near Moses Lake to produce jet fuel from electricity, water, and air on the first day of the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget.

He also disclosed that ZeroAvia, a pioneer in hydrogen-powered flying and another proponent of sustainable aviation, will increase the size of its current Everett facility. Zerovaia intends to multiply the 30-person staff there by a factor of five by the middle of next year.

According to Inslee, the two businesses are part of a “rapidly growing ecosystem of world-leading innovators located in Washington State who are building the future of sustainable aviation fuels and zero-emission propulsion systems.”

Windcat wins Maritime Sustainability Award for hydrogen innovation

At Seawork 2023, Windcat, a significant figure in the marine sector, received the esteemed marine Sustainability Award.

Windcat’s steadfast dedication to decarbonization and its innovative use of hydrogen as a sustainable fuel are both demonstrated by this accolade. The honor recognizes Windcat’s commitment to a greener future and salutes their creative thinking in choosing to use hydrogen as a practical option today rather than putting it off until later. This recognition strengthens Windcat’s position as an industry pioneer in advancing environmentally friendly practices in the maritime industry.

Derwent releases dual SAF-hydrogen combustor for conventional narrowbodies

Derwent Technologies, a UK-based provider of aerospace technology, has proposed a dual-fuel combustor that would allow modern single-aisle aircraft to run on both sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrogen.

The Derwent concept relies on current engine-combustion technology while attempting to make as few changes to existing aircraft design as possible. It was created in collaboration with the UK-based combustion specialist Burntastic and the aircraft performance company RAW Aviation Consulting. Derwent claims that a modified Airbus A320 design may reduce CO2 emissions over typical 800-1000-nm missions by more than 50% by adding wing-mounted hydrogen tanks and keeping the current fuel system.

Huge step forward for H2 Energy’s 1 GW hydrogen plant in Esbjerg

The vast 1 GW hydrogen plant in Esbjerg, Denmark, which is expected to be the largest hydrogen factory in the world by 2027, is being built by the Swiss green hydrogen business H2 Energy.

By performing the front-end engineering design (FEED), COWI supports hydrogen’s potential as a sustainable energy source, and this investment decision says volumes about that potential. The FEED will lay out every technical detail of the hydrogen plant’s design as well as how to best ensure its optimal and secure functioning.
