Loop Energy Fuels ARP’s Hydrogen Buses

Loop Energy and Polish electric bus manufacturer ARP E-Vehicles have announced a partnership to integrate Loop’s T605 fuel cell system into ARP E-Vehicles’ new hydrogen-electric bus platform.

This announcement marks the third time Loop Energy has been chosen by a European bus manufacturer and the sixth occasion globally. This selection further establishes Loop Energy as a leading fuel cell provider in the hydrogen-electric bus market, a sector estimated to reach 12,000 units per year across Korea, Australia, and Europe.

New Rooftop-Mounted Fuel Cell System

Under this agreement, Loop Energy’s 60 kW fuel cell system will be integrated into ARP E-Vehicles’ new 12m hydrogen-electric bus, designed specifically for the European municipal transit service market. This partnership will see the first deployment of Loop Energy’s innovative product line, designed for rooftop mounting, catering specifically to the European bus market. The first T605 60 kW fuel cell unit delivery to ARP E-Vehicles is expected in Q4 2023.

Driving Local Support

Local support was a crucial factor for ARP E-Vehicles during the selection process. This need was fulfilled through Loop Energy’s partnership with Drabpol, a Polish company offering high-level technical support, design, implementation, and market development for numerous global brands. This collaboration was instrumental in ARP E-Vehicles’ selection of Loop Energy’s T605 system, which also features Loop’s proprietary eFlow™ technology, offering industry-leading fuel efficiency.

First Hydrogen-Electric Bus in Q4 2023

ARP E-Vehicles expects to complete its first hydrogen-electric bus in the fourth quarter of 2023, with commercial sales commencing in 2024. This partnership aims to help meet the EU’s mandate requiring 30% of public transport to be zero-emissions by 2028.

Drabpol’s partnership with Loop Energy, which began in 2022, offers a substantial boost to the bus manufacturing sector in Poland, a country supplying a significant percentage of Europe’s bus market.

Global Expansion and Market Development

Loop Energy’s Vice President of Sales and Business Development EMEAR, Luigi Fusi, expressed excitement over the partnership, stating, “This announcement is yet another excellent example of Loop Energy’s partnerships enabling our expansion into different markets around the world.”

Reflecting this sentiment, Piotr Śladowski, President of the Board at ARP E-Vehicles, anticipates significant growth in the coming years, highlighting the partnership’s potential to secure a technological advantage and scale the production capacity of hydrogen-electric buses.
