In a groundbreaking move, ACCIONA, a leading global infrastructure company, is spearheading several pilot projects utilizing hydrogen technology to cut down emissions during the expansion works of the Centennial Bridge in Seville.
ACCIONA’s primary goal is to decarbonize its construction projects by replacing conventional fossil fuel-based generators with zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell solutions. The company aims to demonstrate the feasibility and viability of hydrogen technology in the construction sector, setting a precedent for the industry’s shift towards green practices. By integrating hydrogen-based generators and lighting towers, ACCIONA seeks to significantly reduce emissions and contribute to a sustainable energy transition in the construction domain.
ACCIONA’s pilot projects employ cutting-edge zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell generators. The first initiative involves the installation of a zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell generator set (GEH2®) developed by EODev, replacing the use of a diesel genset on-site. In addition, the company has installed a “zero emissions” lighting tower powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, developed by ATLAS COPO. These innovative solutions provide clean energy without compromising efficiency, paving the way for a greener future in construction.
During the initial implementation period, ACCIONA estimates that the adoption of hydrogen technology in the Centennial Bridge project will avoid the consumption of approximately 8,000 liters of fossil fuel, leading to emissions reductions equivalent to 24 tons of CO2. Beyond this specific project, ACCIONA’s efforts represent a milestone at both national and international levels, showcasing the successful application of hydrogen-based solutions in construction projects.
ACCIONA’s commitment to hydrogen-based pilot projects represents a paradigm shift in the construction industry’s journey towards sustainability. By utilizing zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell generators and lighting towers, the company showcases the possibilities of reducing carbon emissions in construction activities. As ACCIONA’s goals align with the global push for a greener and cleaner future, the construction sector witnesses a transformative approach, setting the stage for more environmentally conscious projects.
