Collaboration agreement signed for Alpine Hydrogen Highway
On Friday, September 15, in the Maurienne valley, an important step was taken in the direction of a more environmentally friendly transportation future. Around the Alpine Hydrogen Highway project, a collaboration agreement was formally signed, bringing together important parties including SFTRF, AREA, the Maurienne country union, and HYmpulsion.
In order to promote the decarbonized movement of commodities using green hydrogen from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region’s geographic center to Italy’s Piedmont area, this effort intends to establish a territorial ecosystem. By deploying at least 30 hydrogen trucks in this region by 2025, this alliance hopes to make substantial progress toward a more sustainable transportation future.
TMB expands hydorgen-powered bus fleet
The company Solaris Bus Ibérica was awarded 36 standard hydrogen buses by the Metropolitan Transport of Barcelona (TMB) for a total of 23,396,400 euros. These buses will be added to the 8 hydrogen buses that are already in use.
According to a statement released by TMB on Tuesday, the purchase was made possible thanks to funding provided by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda as part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan – Next Generation.
TMB now has eight hydrogen vehicles operating on the X1 line, and with this move, it greatly enhances that number.
Western Australia will tax natural hydrogen projects
This month, Western Australia began holding industry consultations on its 2030 Renewable Hydrogen Strategy. The strategic refresher has confirmed that while green hydrogen—also known as natural hydrogen—is produced through electrolysis powered by renewable energy, it does not attract a royalty.
Green hydrogen projects are far more advanced than natural hydrogen, even though the overall hydrogen business in Australia is still in its infancy. At the moment, South Australia is the only state with a comprehensive legislative framework for natural hydrogen exploration.
The government of Western Australia is now drafting its exploration legislation and seems to be taking a cue from South Australia, which imposes a 10% royalty on hydrogen produced from subsurface rocks.
Plagazi to deliver hydrogen to ‘Gotland Horizon’ fleet
Sweden’s Plagazi has established a partnership with its countrymen at Gotlandsbolaget to deliver hydrogen to the ‘Gotland Horizon’ fleet’s newest vehicles.
In order to support Gotlandsbolaget’s ‘Destination Zero’ project, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045, the company will use Plagazi’s hydrogen as fuel in its next-generation hydrogen-powered maritime transport vessels.
Producing a report outlining the possibility of establishing the Plagazi production facilities for a localized, cost-effective hydrogen supply is part of the project’s first phase, known as a fundamental engineering study. Plagazi stated that the two businesses will examine if it is feasible to distribute sustainable and circular hydrogen from its waste-to-hydrogen production facilities to important locations for Gotlandsbolaget’s operations.
World Bank establishing green hydrogen hub with Brazilian states
The World Bank is establishing a green hydrogen hub with nine states in northeastern Brazil.
The sustainability of states like Alagoas and Bahia is the main focus of this agreement. Regarding locally sponsored projects as well as the energy transition, experts will offer guidance. The partnership’s main priorities are wind energy and green hydrogen. The plan also addresses sanitation, solar energy, and prospective conservation projects.
The pact also promotes digital development and community involvement. This partnership encourages the sharing of information in digital public amenities.
South African minister encourages hydrogen cooperation with Japan
Dr. Blade Nzimande, the minister of higher education, science, and innovation for South Africa, is now in Japan for Tokyo GX Week and to encourage cooperation in the development of hydrogen as an energy source in that country. Tokyo GX Week is a project of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI); GX stands for “Green Transformation”.
The goal of the Hydrogen Society Roadmap, which was introduced by the South African Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) last year, is for hydrogen to be used as an energy source “at scale” in South Africa. The plan acts as a framework for the country’s economic sectors to collaborate and make it easier to integrate hydrogen-linked technologies. The establishment of a hydrogen goods and component manufacturing industry in South Africa is one of the roadmap’s most important outcomes.
