H2 Energy Esbjerg to Build Green Hydrogen Hub in Taulov

H2 Energy Esbjerg, a Danish hydrogen company, will build a distribution hub for the transport of green hydrogen in Taulov in several phases. The timing of the phases will depend on the expansion of the Danish hydrogen infrastructure and the clarification of the commercial framework for heavy hydrogen-powered transport in Denmark.

It is crucial that a plan for Danish hydrogen infrastructure is determined if hydrogen is to be competitive in relation to fossil fuels. This involves a time perspective and a mapping of where the hydrogen pipelines will be located. This is crucial because there is an urgent need for environmentally friendly transport solutions in Denmark and a desire to promote the use of green commercial vehicles.

H2 Energy Esbjerg has contributed to presenting five strategic recommendations on financing a Danish hydrogen infrastructure for the Danish government. The recommendations have been made in collaboration with a number of interest organizations and energy companies. The goal is for the infrastructure to be put into use before the end of 2027.

Energinet, which is responsible for Denmark’s energy infrastructure, expects that a future hydrogen infrastructure can create a potential societal benefit of DKK 30-75 billion. DKK towards 2060. The investment will also promote a green transition in industries in the so-called hard-to-abate sectors, which are difficult to decarbonise.

The construction of H2 Energy’s 1 GW PtX hydrogen production facility in Esbjerg continues according to plan. In June, H2 Energy Esbjerg entered into a contract with COWI for the execution of a front-end engineering design (FEED) for the hydrogen plant. The FEED contract is a significant milestone for the establishment. The FEED will describe the technical nuances of the plant’s design with the aim of ensuring optimal operation and safety.

H2 Energy Esbjerg expects to make a final investment decision (FID) on the hydrogen plant in the first quarter of 2024.

H2 Energy Esbjerg’s projects have the potential to have a significant impact on Denmark’s green transition. The distribution hub in Taulov will provide a central location for the storage and distribution of green hydrogen, which will make it easier and more affordable for businesses and consumers to access hydrogen. The hydrogen plant in Esbjerg will produce large quantities of green hydrogen, which will help to reduce Denmark’s reliance on fossil fuels and support the development of a green hydrogen economy.

H2 Energy Esbjerg’s projects are ambitious but achievable. The company has a strong track record of success, and it is supported by a number of leading investors and partners. If successful, H2 Energy Esbjerg’s projects will help to make Denmark a global leader in the production and use of green hydrogen.
