Green Energy Park and Puklavec Family Wines Partner to Decarbonize Production with Hydrogen

Green Energy Park and Puklavec Family Wines have joined hands at the World Hydrogen Congress in Rotterdam, signing a Letter of Intent (LOI) to embark on a groundbreaking journey towards the decarbonization of wine production and distribution using hydrogen derived from renewable energy sources.

Puklavec Family Wines is set to become one of the world’s first wineries to reach net-zero emissions through the innovative application of hydrogen. The collaboration between Green Energy Park and Puklavec Family Wines has a simple yet audacious goal: to successfully implement a comprehensive decarbonization strategy utilizing hydrogen and ultimately achieve the winery’s Net Zero emissions targets.

The path ahead is challenging, as it involves not only meeting ambitious sustainability objectives but also doing so in an economically viable manner. It’s a testament to the evolution of the green energy landscape, combining advanced technology with the affordability of green hydrogen as a crucial resource for success.

The partnership aims to explore the vast potential of hydrogen as a renewable energy carrier for all stages of wine production and distribution. This collaborative effort goes beyond the wine cellar; it aspires to create a model that other industries can replicate in their own decarbonization strategies.

By leading the way, Puklavec Family Wines and Green Energy Park intend to inspire the wine industry to adopt best practices and share their knowledge in reducing carbon emissions using hydrogen from renewable energy sources.

The partnership is strategically aligned with the downstream applications of the rapidly growing Green Energy Park (GEP) franchise network. The GEP Piaui, with its substantial one-gigawatt upstream renewable ammonia production facility in Brazil, is one of at least eight upstream partners set to supply the GEP Krk, a midstream facility in Croatia with a 10-million-ton ammonia capacity.

Puklavec Family Wines will be the pioneer downstream off-taker of hydrogen, with ammonia serving as the chosen renewable energy carrier. This integration across the renewable energy value chain is a powerful step toward decarbonization, demonstrating the efficiency of such synergies.
