Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jordan signed four memoranda of understanding with private sector companies. These agreements mark the initiation of feasibility studies for the development of green hydrogen projects, positioning Jordan as a potential leader in the emerging green hydrogen industry.

The primary goal of these memoranda is to prepare the groundwork for green hydrogen projects in Jordan, aligning with the Economic Modernization Vision (2020-2030). Minister Saleh Kharabsheh expressed pride in Jordan’s renewable energy achievements, emphasizing the aspiration for these achievements to play a pivotal role in the regional production of green hydrogen.

The signed memoranda involve prominent companies such as Kawar Energy, Philadelphia Solar Energy, Amarenco Group, and ENERTRAG. The projects aim to produce substantial amounts of green ammonia annually. For instance, Kawar Company targets 100,000 tons, Philadelphia Company aims for 100-200 thousand tons, ENERTRAG Company envisions about 200,000 tons, and Amarenco ambitiously plans for 1 million tons of green ammonia annually.

Minister Kharabsheh highlighted the early preparations Jordan has undertaken for the green hydrogen industry. With renewable energy contributing 27 percent to electrical energy in the Kingdom by the end of the previous year, the feasibility studies will explore the potential use of thermal energy alongside renewable sources.
