Power2Earth, a collaboration between Fertiberia, Lantmännen, and Nordion Energi, is set to establish Sweden’s first fossil-free mineral fertilizer production, ushering in a new era of sustainability in agriculture.

With its hydrogen-based production process driven by renewable energy, Power2Earth aims to significantly slash carbon dioxide emissions from food production, marking a pivotal moment in Sweden’s green transition.

The partnership between Fertiberia, Lantmännen, and Nordion Energi represents the largest initiative of its kind in the Nordic region, with a collective investment estimated at around 2 billion euros. By leveraging advanced electrolysis technology powered by renewable energy, Power2Earth aims to pioneer the production of fossil-free mineral fertilizers, laying the foundation for a more resilient and self-sufficient food supply chain in Sweden.

With a production capacity of one million tons of mineral fertilizer annually, Power2Earth is poised to make a substantial impact on emissions reduction in Swedish agriculture. By targeting a reduction of approximately 1.6 million tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to 25 percent of emissions from Swedish agriculture, the initiative demonstrates a firm commitment to combating climate change while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

The establishment of Power2Earth in Luleå not only signifies a significant milestone in Sweden’s green transition but also positions Norrbotten as a hub for hydrogen innovation.
