South Australia’s ambitious venture into clean hydrogen production marks a significant milestone with the establishment of the Port Bonython Hydrogen Hub.
The Port Bonython Hydrogen Hub is poised to become a premier clean hydrogen production precinct, facilitating the production and export of green hydrogen. Anchored by key partners such as Origin, Fortescue, Amp Energy, The Hydrogen Utility (H2U), and Santos, the hub aims to position South Australia as a world-class hydrogen supplier, leveraging its abundant renewable energy resources.
Central to the hub’s operations is the utilization of advanced electrolysis technology, which harnesses renewable energy to produce hydrogen through water electrolysis. With access to renewable energy zones and a deepwater port, the hub maximizes efficiency and sustainability in hydrogen production, laying the foundation for a thriving hydrogen economy.
The Port Bonython Hydrogen Hub holds immense potential to drive economic growth and job creation in South Australia. Estimates suggest that the hub could host projects worth approximately $13 billion and generate up to 1.8 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030.
